Project Overview: MEC Ice Climbing Content Capture – Nordegg, Alberta
This project for Mountain Equipment Company (MEC) took us to the frozen canyons of Nordegg, Alberta, to capture photo and video content centered around ice climbing in a raw, remote alpine environment. The objective was to create dynamic, authentic visuals that showcased MEC gear in action, while telling a compelling story of winter adventure.
As both an experienced climber and ice climber, I was able to execute this shoot solo or with a minimal crew — handling rigging, safety systems, and camera operation in vertical terrain. My technical climbing background allowed me to access otherwise challenging shooting angles, stay agile on the ice, and work seamlessly alongside the athletes without disrupting their flow.
The result was a set of cinematic, high-impact visuals that highlight both the sport and the gear in its intended environment. The content was delivered for MEC’s use across social media, digital campaigns, and in-store visuals — telling a story that’s not just about gear, but about where that gear can take you.
